We found that our newly-named island, Big Ratfink, housed a crude mine of human construction. Naturally drawn to holes in the world, we entered the stonework to find a steep incline with rails descending, and at the top, a weathered old cart. Ade, ever the pragmatist, hopped in, and with a shove, we sent him careening down the slope. At the bottom he was tossed bodily into darkness, where he noticed something slinking and writhing.
Following, we find the mine filled with the rank scent of livestock, as well as a door striped with banded iron, and beyond, narrow tunnels, too small for Umesh to traverse. Just then, a thick, poisonous splat landed near Ade and Bishal, and they realized a thick worm wriggled above them. Leaping into combat, we rushed the worm, only to realize there were more, including a big one with fierce instincts. It spit goop all over Jamsto, who led the retreat to put the banded door between the party and the worms, but they were too quick, so we duked it out and spilled much blood on both sides.
Qui was unable to get a spell off successfully, and after throwing war oil to finish off a worm, Ade was felled! Bishal gave him an impromptu burial, and luckily we were well equipped with medicine, such that Ade was on his feet soon after the giant worm retreated. We bailed soon after, thanks to Bishal's Ant Joints.
We returned after a rest to find the worm corpses gone, and peculiar, dessicated-looking oxen creatures who might once have been beasts of burden in the mines. They seemed docile enough, so we ignored them, plunging further. We hear murmurring, spot the flicker of fire. A yellow-skinned, middle-aged man, eyes permanently squinted, muttered to himself. He was interested in our boat, the Jade's Favour. As sailors, we know some things aren't meant to be messed with, he said. (We lied about being sailors and most certainly did not know this.) Getting nowhere, Bishal summoned an Outsider, but it was twisted, not to be dominated, and sought the suffering of all human life — so we turned on it. It was a rocky beast, composed of topax, with eyes all about it. The yellow man helped us fight it, smashing it into a pile of topaz and rubble, until he transformed into a lycanthrope — a were-eel — and proceeded to thrash us about, knocking even mighty Umesh unconscious for a time. Sensing our doom, we sought to depart. The eelman grabbed the topaz from the Outsider and fled further into the mines as we returned to the surface, weary and beaten once again. With a few topazes in our pockets and our miserable lives, we escaped Eelscar Island.
